Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a exciting storyline including angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in power within the city.
Warning: Key plot points for the latest installment of the new season are included.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.
This warrior group features Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Given 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.
That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.
What Defines the Combat Party
According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Initially, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might seem unsuited, but the events of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
First, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the narrative’s action—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
The traitor then settled his obligations and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the close ally and trusted friend, desires revenge.
- Kattigan knows Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous place.
- The strong character and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their status as key figures in House Halovar could enable the party reach locations they usually can’t.
- Moreover, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are wanted by the rulers that rule the setting for a range of causes, making lingering locally too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
- The warrior and The healer defied the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The target is marked for death by the family.
This leaves them no alternative but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.
What’s Next?
From the recent installment’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to form the Seekers and Strategists parties.
Audiences can expect learning which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on October 24.
